Announcing Open64 Java Compiler Project

Fudan University of China, Google Inc and HP Inc started the Open64 Java project at the end of Sep 2007.
The goal of the project is to speed up Java applications by leveraging the powerful optimization infrastructure of Open64.
The first step of the project is to make Open64 a Java native compiler by leveraging the Java front end of GCC and libgcj. Then, a new Java byte code generator will be developed to make Open64 a Java compatible compiler.
Using this compiler, we can explore the optimizing opportunities for Java applications utilizing advanced optimization technologies and combined static and dynamic optimizations.
