The Open64 Steering Group has been formed
The Open64 Steering Group has been formed. The initial members are:
- Sun Chan (Simplight Nanoelectronics)
- Fred Chow (Pathscale)
- Prof. Gao (Delaware)
- Robert Hundt (Google)
- Shin-Ming Liu (HP)
- Prof. John Mellor-Crummey (Rice)
- Prof. Zheng (Tsinghua)
The group is working on a development model for Open64 and on it's own charter. These are the current drafts:
Open64 Mission Statement (July 2007)
The Open64 development effort uses an open development environment
in order to foster a world-class optimizing compiler, to attract a
larger team of developers, to ensure that Open64 works on multiple
(supported) architectures and diverse environments, and to more
thoroughly test and extend the features of Open64.
Open64 Development Goals:
- gcc compatible - using various gcc compatible front-ends
- industrial strength - able to compile large industrial
source bases, deliver top performance, support effective
debugging of problems. - support x86 and Itanium as the (current) main platforms
- viable platform for both research and commercial use
Project
- Compilers are available under the terms of the open64 version of
the GPL. - Patches must be legally acceptable for inclusion into the
Open64 project.
Open Development Environment
- Soliciting your input !
- Developer friendly tools and procedures ( i.e., svn, bugzilla, etc).
- Conflicts of interest exist for many Open64 developers; the
developers as well as the Open64 Steering Committee will not
allow those conflicts of interest to have an effect on the
development of Open64.
With these development mission statements, this is OSG's charter:
Open64 Steering Group Charter
The primary purpose of the steering committee is to make major
decisions in the best interests of the Open64 project and to ensure
that the project adheres to its fundamental principles found in the
project's mission statement.
